Based in Austin, Texas.
I’m originally from Manchester, England. One common response when people catch what remains of my accent is: ‘What are you doing in Texas?’ I have yet to come up with a satisfactory answer to this question.
Meanwhile, here’s how I got here:
My very first job was at a commercial photo lab. On good days I'd get to print images of local bands - The Smiths, New Order and The Stone Roses.
Being young and foolish, I moved to Los Angeles, with notions of becoming a fashion photographer. Three years of photographing model portfolios - printing the resulting images while balanced on the toilet in my tiny bathroom - cured me of such notions. I put away my camera and started writing for magazines instead.
I moved to Brooklyn, NY. In total, I published more than one hundred articles, and invariably felt like I was working for my own non-profit. I also attempted and failed to write two novels, and attempted and failed to avoid working in restaurants.
I picked-up the camera again - digital now! In 2008 I moved to Austin, TX. A friend opening a restaurant needed photography for his website, and I took the project on. I’ve been making pictures ever since.
